Adaptability

_I: I have been left alone again, although in tense situations. My friends' flights were canceled and they also had to go to the airport to be relocated to new flights from other companies. These times are of great change, stressful for those who are not used to things being modified, plans being reconfigured. I am very used to it as a person who has lived constantly traveling and changing places and circumstances. However, I know that for some it is quite a trauma, and the uncertainty is overwhelming.

_AM: Uncertainty is key for those who search. He who searches cannot live on certainties.

_I: Yes, of course. But there are also plans, what one programs and hopes will happen. Letting go of expectation is very difficult. It happened to me myself when the I Am path began. Even though I quickly adapted to the new circumstance due to the pandemic, I spent a few days feeling that nothing made sense, that I was lost. Everything was crazy, the sudden changes, the endless cancellations, and the fact that I had to modify everything planned around the world so that I could simply be fixed in one place for an entire year. It required a great effort on my part to return to my center and accept the new reality.

_AM: There are people who the slightest of changes can lead to a great level of stress. From people who simply have a great Virginian presence in their lives, to obsessive compulsives, or traumas and personality disorders, as well as a simple family tradition of order, all of this is subject to a personality that can break at the slightest unexpected movement, Not to mention sudden changes in plans.

_I: Yes, I have met people like that, in fact some of my friends are like that, and I tend to make them quite desperate… Despite my stability here in Giza, this month was quite hectic. After spending two full months in solitude where everything was slow and predictable, 20 days ago my friends arrived and everything began to speed up. Then, 6 days later, the people arrived, the 72 from the Fezur (serpent of light) path, along with other of my friends, and we had to start running, so that everything was ready. Then, without rest, and little sleep, we toured the Nile, and then the pyramids. It was a stressful journey in which people had to adapt to a constant change with different and unexpected speeds. In the last few days, I was able to receive some comments that some people expected something different from the trip, such as a greater presence from me, more talks from me, more rest... That is, surely some arrived with expectations. And it's normal. However, many times the expectations of what should happen do not allow us to see what is there.

_AM: The tree that covers the forest. Expectations are thoughts structured by previous concepts, which become patterns in the mind, and therefore the brain prepares the entire body with the intention of being ready for the situations to come. This generates an emotional level predisposed in advance to events, which, if they do not happen, the brain feels that it has failed, and tries to force the idea that what is expected will happen, leading to frustration, anger, criticism, disappointment.

_I: How to release those expectations?

_AM: Adaptability. The ability to take in that which is beyond (“ad”= toward, “apt”= take, reach). The passive aspect of the future is Expectation, which positions itself in a role of waiting, waiting, looking at what is out there to know what may come. In its active aspect, Adaptability reminds us to take control of the situation, to reach for what is ahead, without merely observing it. Getting out of expectation is taking action, it is deciding for yourself to make something happen without waiting for someone else to make it happen.

_I: Adaptation then as the key to transcending the eternal wait.

_AM: Adapting to different spaces is what we have done since the early days. Whoever does not adapt dies. Waiting is not an option in a changing world, and not even what seems to be waiting still really is.

_I: Like what things?

_AM: Like a tree in winter. Within the tree, constant communications occur, an incessant movement of life that maintains the flow of energy while the cold prevents its expansion. Adaptation to the environment is the key to evolution, necessary to achieve what you are looking for. Whether it is safety, food, reproduction; An individual, whether unicellular or multicellular, will need to move, go look for what he needs, not relegate himself to what is or what there is. Animals migrate, plants are pollinated by wind and insects; others build or, like humans, create cultures and religions. The act of searching ahead for the solution arises because the medium will never give you the solution, and if it does, it will be up to you to take that opportunity or let it pass you by. Expectation is born from the imagination, from thinking what could be, and not taking action to achieve what is expected.

_I: When people place expectations on something or someone, then they expect things to be done by others, or to happen without the need for effort; and if what they want doesn't happen, they get frustrated and the easy reaction is to judge or get frustrated with what happened...

_AM: Instead of putting the strength and all the will to take action, to see the new possibilities, to do for oneself what the other does not give us, or take the first step to make it so.

_I: As someone who expects me to come talk to him, instead of drowning in the expectation that I will come and say hello, he should take a step towards me and ask.

_AM: That's right. Everyone has expectations, because it is easier to live off ideas of what could be, rather than taking the initiative to carry it out. However, there are different types of adaptation.

_I: Which ones?

_AM: First of all, Adaptation to the Environment. This type of adaptation is the most natural, which affects each cell, and is the one we mentioned previously, the one that leads us to seek to satisfy our basic needs in a changing environment. The change in climate, temperature, and season leads organisms to have to move in order to enter a new environment conducive to what they need.

_I: Yes, adapting to the lights in the case of photosynthesis, you can see that plants have changed their shapes to obtain the greatest amount of solar energy…

_AM: Adaptation to the environment is the one that has taken the most energy throughout history in each existing species. On the other hand, we have Physical Adaptation, which implies the ability of the physical organism to adapt to circumstances related to action. For example, running up a mountain, doing a sport, is an action that adapts the body to a new action, but not to a new environment, since even if you run a marathon, it does not occur in a natural way.

_I: What do you mean?

_AM: Running fast because you are escaping from a predator is not the same as running fast because you have practiced for an Olympic race.

_I: Oh, I understand…

_AM: Physical adaptation, then, is testing the limits and flexibility of the body, forcing it to carry out activity in spaces that have not changed, by its own will and not by external force. On the other hand, we find Mental Adaptability, it is the ability of an individual to open up to new philosophical spaces, ideas, thoughts, cultures, different visions. This adaptability is very typical of Gemini, in that they can take the necessary role of each group to flow between them. The ease of opening up to new worlds, to listen to new proposals, to marvel at unexpected results; This is an attribute that can be useful for moving around in different cultures, learning languages, and is probably one of the most difficult on a social level, because since childhood we are subject to a specific cultural vision of seeing the world. Adapting mentally requires breaking belief patterns, freeing yourself from preconceptions, being able to see beyond and go look for what is seen in front of you.

_I: Many times I get the feeling that Mental Adaptability is very confused with hypocrisy. Because?

_AM: Hypocrite was a beautiful word in ancient Greece. “Hiccup” (below) and “krinéin” (separate, discern), form the idea of “who discerns what is below”, a term coined to describe oracles and seers, who read fortunes, runes, messages of dreams that others could not understand or interpret. Many went to ask the “hypocrites” who explained the hidden to listeners and seekers. In many cases, they simply said what people wanted to hear. In this way they ensured the acceptance of leaders, rulers, and powerful people. They became more than oracles, actors. Therefore, this was the word for those who told stories in theaters, because they acted like hypocrites, advising in their verses and lyrics. Hiding in words to please others with his verses ended up making the word “hypocrite” a synonym for a liar, someone who hides to get what he wants, to be accepted, demonstrating feelings and ideas with emphasis that he does not really feel. nor does he believe or much less profess. Now, the mental ability of hypocrites to be open to interpreting all types of messages, information, concepts, made their minds work quickly and adapt to each interlocutor, which could be said to have a great adaptive capacity with their minds. Therefore, it is very likely that today, this quality is seen as something negative, when originally it was not.

_I: How do you take this kind of adaptability without seeming hypocritical? In other words, according to what we believe today, he is a hypocrite.

_AM: Being very clear inside that you adapt to amplify your points of view. The important thing is not what others see about you, but what you believe about yourself, and how you use it, in coherence, as an amplification tool.

_I: I guess, having said that, we are left with Emotional Adaptation…

_AM: That's right. The being emotionally adapts to the circumstances of each person with whom it relates. From the plexus, the individual is an extension of his bonds and relationships, which all fluctuate like rivers, changing their course through mountains and valleys. When a person is rigid, when what he experiences moves between blacks and whites, he will have a lower capacity to adapt to interpersonal relationships, preventing him from expanding and receiving new visions. Emotion is the key to assimilating information, and the lack of emotional adaptation can lead us to get stuck in the past, to live on dreams and frustrations, due to our expectations.

_I: Of course... Not allowing yourself to love other people, to receive the love or points of view of others, the affection of new individuals... Those people who close their emotional circle also close their mind, and block themselves from any change.

_AM: The freedom of Being is not found in the belief that being coherent is being faithful to one and rigid in one's philosophical positions. The freedom of the Being lies in the constant adaptability to the environment, with the body, in the emotion and the mind. Open to the world, close your eyes to see beyond, take the action of taking the first step without expecting anything.

_I: Be a “true hypocrite”, adapt to all visions to expand, without closing myself off from the world.

_AM: The key to adaptation is to remember that the axis is not fixed, that there is not a single point of view, that it is necessary and pertinent to change the way of seeing things, and that it is not bad to fluctuate in ideologies and emotions. The culture has made them think that changing is almost a betrayal, that acting in a different way than expected is interpreted as a denial of who one is. And the truth is that life is a Play, and it is necessary to play in it to become a creator. God, the Goddess, is everything, without judgment about what they are. Integrity is not based on being one, separated from others to escape hypocrisy, integrity is integrating everything into one, to be able to be everything.

_I: That's why I must adapt to all things.

_AM: If you seek to transcend beyond time and space and find eternity, you must stop being who you think you are, and be everything. Discern what is underneath, recognize the hidden that is discovered in the visions of others and shared.

_I: I adapt.

_AM: And that is the energy that you must awaken in your being.
